PROGRAM

Things that are more than one thing… simultaneously or over time.

 

Salon/Library/Weinbar:

-       Falling within the programming at Tacheles Kunsthaus, I propose a salon – essentially, a place where artists and intellectuals of all types can discuss and share ideas.  It will operate like a co-op or Wein-bar.  No set prices, hang out, talk, and grab a drink or something to eat if you want.

 

Dancehall/studios:

-       Adjoining or part of the salon, I propose a dancehall/performance space with smaller studios as well as a larger hall for big events.  Dancers and musicians can mix with artists.  Different genres, different types of artists, all creating together.

 

Housing/Supermarket/Services:

-       Because the area is currently a popular and desirable area to live, housing is an important function to have on the site.  Currently, there is a hotel and hostel on site.  However, there is a need for single occupancy short-term apartments.  Who will live here?  Artists?  Students?  Visitors to Berlin?

-       As part of the housing complex, I hope to integrate the necessary services so that people living in the apartments or staying in the hotel and hostel have a less costly alternative for meals.

 

Gathering space/event space:

-       The void at Tacheles already seems to partially serve as a gathering and event space (the bar at the back, the underground parties, the movies projected on the wall).  I want to keep this happening, possibly expanding the activities to the whole site.
